Adopt-A-Family Program

Palomar Council Adopt-A-Family Chair: Kim Chevallier

The Poway Unified School District Adopt-a-Family program has provided assistance to local families during the holidays for the past decade.  Our community of schools has families living in the 4S Ranch, Carmel Mountain Ranch, Poway, Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Penasquitos and Sabre Springs areas.  The program is coordinated by the Palomar Council PTA.  As need and awareness have grown, so has the program; we helped about 500 families last year.  With unemployment still high and the local economy still struggling, we expect schools to request help for even more families this year.

If your organization sponsors a holiday or charitable program, or if your organization would like to become involved, please consider working with us to provide basic items and modest gifts to our PUSD families in need.  As an all-volunteer program, we have no overhead or administrative costs; so all of your contributions go directly to families here in our community.  Donations are of course tax deductible.

What can you do to help?

• Adopt a family.  Anonymous wish lists are available for each family.
• Provide gift cards for gas, grocery and discount stores.
• Donate new and unwrapped toys and games, including for older children.
• Write a check.  Checks can be made payable to Palomar Council PTA; the full amount of the donation will be provided to families in need.

If you are interested in supporting this important program, please contact Palomar Council’s AAF Chair, Kim Chevalier, as soon as possible.  The response from our community determines how many families we can invite to participate.
