caring connections counseling





Caring Connections Counseling is housed in the Caring Connections Center as part of Learning Support Services for the Poway Unified School District. The focus of service is for students in grades K-12 who may be experiencing any of the following: difficult situations at home or in school, depression, continued academic failure, involvement in violence-related offenses, alcohol or other drug related behavior. Families may be referred by school personnel, or may choose to self-refer for assistance. This service is free



PUSD Coping Strategies Website





The PUSD website has a wide variety of coping resources for parents to access should parents need such resources. To find these resources please visit the Coping Strategies website. There are additional resources that can be found at the Youngminds.org website, New York Life Foundation, Crisis Intervention Contact List, The Process of Grief, Care for the Caregivers, The Elizabeth Hospice Children's Bereavement Program, and Loss of Classmate resource.

Here are resources and information to support individuals and communities during this time of Covid because when children are stressed, their bodies respond by activating their stress response systems. To help them manage these reactions, it is important to both validate their feelings (e.g., “I know that this might feel scary or overwhelming”) and encourage them to engage in activities that help them self-regulate (e.g., exercise, deep breathing, mindfulness or meditation activities, regular routines for sleeping and eating).

Nationwide and California parent & youth helplines





1-855-427-2736 Emotional support for families challenged by the pressures of COVID-19: Parents Anonymous® Inc. launched the California Parent & Youth Helpline in partnership with Governor Gavin Newsom as part of his initiative to address the impacts of COVID-19. Since 1969, Parents Anonymous® has provided weekly evidence-based support groups for parents, children and youth nationwide.Support Groups in response to the Coronavirus to provide free trauma-informed, evidenced-based emotional support to Parents, Children and Youth in any language via calls, text, live chat and email. The California Parent & Youth Helpline operates 7 days a week from 8:00AM-8:00PM.


988: The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (formerly known as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline) offers 24/7 call, text and chat access to trained crisis counselors who can help people experiencing suicidal, substance use, and/or mental health crisis, or any other kind of emotional distress. People can also dial 988 if they are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support.
